It is the city of Palermo that sets the stage for one of Sicily’s most fascinating stories, that of the Florio family.
Entrepreneurs and merchants, ambitious and audacious, Paolo and Ignazio Florio stand out for their modern vision in all their dealings: in a short time their spice store becomes the best known in the city; Marsala – considered a poor wine – knows a new celebrity; in Favignana they relaunch the consumption of tuna with a revolutionary method of preserving it, in oil and in cans. This is flanked by the sulfur trade, the founding of a shipping company and investments that cause them to acquire houses and land from fallen aristocrats.
Strong men, the Lions of Sicily, flanked by special women such as Giuseppina, Giulia, Giovanna and Franca – the latter the most beautiful woman in Europe, featured in Giovanni Boldini’s famous portrait.
Dedicated to them is this tour that retraces famous places linked to their destinies – Palermo, Favignana, Marsala, the Madonie Mountains – and that fascinate fans all over the world thanks to the contribution of cinema and literature.
